You could try once more and use the staged transfer process to load up a little bit a time. If that won't work then I'd call it a day.

Hi, I have an 160gb ipod classic that I got about 10 months ago. I accidently unplugged my ipod on a sync and now it won't download anything. There are 10,920 reallocs on th ipod and 7 retracts. Is there anything I can do to save my ipod without physically repairing it from the outside? Thank you

Unplugging an iPod during syncing might corrupt the database on the device, but it won't have caused errors that have led to the reallocations. If you bought it new talk to Apple about a warranty replacement. If it was second hand then I suspect you're seeing the evidence of earlier problems. 11,000 reallocs is a lot, but if they are all successfully mapped out and you can load data onto the device without things getting worse then they are doing what they are supposed to do. Try a DFU restore and see how you get on, otherwise look into the options for a replacement hard drive.

my retracts are on 156 and reallocs on 1659 and 3 pending sectors do you think the hard disk is done or it can be fixed and how much could a new one cost?

Doesn't sound too bad. Try the DFU restore or low level format methods in Corrupt iPod classic. Google should let you know how much a replacement drive costs where you are, either DIY or as a repair service.

also i forgot to state that the problem occured suddenly one day...
the ipod autoerased all the content inside without me syncing it or connecting it to the computer...after it crashed and showed me the apple icon everything was gone and from then on i couldnt sync anything
also some days before that happened some songs werent playing and those that played ,played after some minutes of "loading"
and now when i tried to restore it the way you stated with 12 secs menu and select button an error message popped the i pod could not be restored error 1439

Try again...If the firmware cannot read the database then the device appears empty.

Do the pending sectors clear? Can you get just one song on the device?

no pending sectors still on 3 reallocs raised to 1693 from 1659 giving you the rest
    power on hours :294
    start/stops:156
    temp current:32c
    temp min :11c
    temp max :51c

i can get 1 or 2 songs in the device if i stop the sync
EDIT even if i get the songs inside they cant be played and a little sound like squenching is heard from the inside of the device...
i can pretty much tell myself now it is pretty much done

Sounds bad... As a last restort I suppose you could try an "iPod slap", assuming the device is out of warranty.

it worked for the syncing surprisingly thank you!!
but in the ipod only certain songs play and if lets say i have 89 songs in the playlist and i push the first one it drops down to the 19th one and starts playing that one

Check those stats again... My guess is that they got worse again with the sectors holding the tracks that couldn't play now being flagged as pending.

retracts on 159 and reallocs slightly raised to 1693 sectors still on 3
