I am using Aperture 3.4.4.  I have about 9000 photos in the program of which 800 of them are photos containing my 2 grandkids.  All these photos have their faces detected properly by Faces.  I then created a Smart Album, containing faces of their names.  But the resultant Smart Album contains almost all of their photos.  There are a few missing however.  I have deleted the smart album and re-created it but the same problem.  I have Repaired the Library and same problem.  What else should I do?  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi Tom,

We need to figure out why those few Images are not being selected.

    • Do you have Stacks expanded?
    • Have you edited any of the Images in an external editor (or plug-in)?  This creates a new Original, which may not contain the Faces information.
    • Are you sure the Smart Album is not being filtered in a way that is excluding some Images (perhaps you have marked them as "rejected")?

Here is a way to compare two containers, applied to your situation:

    - select all the Images in the Smart Album.

    - Flag them

    - Select the other container (an Album with the 800 Images of your grandchildren)

    - Filter for "Flagged" "No".

Do the "missing" Images show up?

    Some things to check:

    • Is the source of your smart album the whole library and not a folder or project?
    • How do you search for "Faces" in the smart settings of the album? Using a "Face is" rule or a text rule?

If you are using "Face is" rule, check your "Faces" stacks, if you have accidentally created two faces stacks for one of your gran dids. That may easily happen, if you assign faces from projects and not from the main "Faces" view. Then unite the Faces stacks.

To check, if  the "Source" of your smart album is "Library":

.  "Affe".  I have a face named "Sculpture".

I was quite impressed that Aperture's Face Recognition recognizeed the baboon's face.

I have some nice tagged sculptures too.

And some of the more cheeky suggestion by Aperture I named "Funny Face", for example - where does Aperture see a Face here in the bottom part of the picture?

I have not used Stacks.  From the menu bar under Stacks, all items are dimmed except, Auto, Previous, Next-Stack.

I was not referring to the regular stacks, sorry. I meant the stacked images in "Faces" view.

Any small typo when naming faces can result in duplicate stacks of names. And if you are searching with a Face rule, the second stack may not be found.

Check  from the main "Faces" view in the Library Inspector panel.

For example, two victorias. It helps to sort the faces by name to check for such errors.

How are you determining that some Images are missing?

Did you try my compare method?
