Q: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. No Sound Output Routing Available

Hi. All of a sudden my Mac Pro doesn't display the Saffire option for sound output. The Saffire appears in the input stage (Settings> Sound) and I can see that external signals are getting in (via the Focusrite mixer).

The firewire is connected fine (illuminated).

I have downloaded the latest drivers.

I have checked for available system updates (all fine there).

I have also checked that I haven't muted the outputs (just in case).

The main problem seems to be that the audio output option to route through Saffire has just gone. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Livingston Drew,,

I'm still having the same issue. I was sent the DiceTool but all my inputs were recognized. I was sent an older version of MixControl, but it would mean running a removal tool to get rid of 3.1, then an installer to try 3.0, and if that doesn't work 2.4. My question is, have you heard of this issue? Basically it is similar to what was posted orginally, though in my case opening MixControl and flipping the Sync from 48kHz to 44.1 resets the clock and the sound output is once again active. At first I was restarting the entire set up (Saffire and MacBook), and occasionally the sound output worked. I could replicate the issue by shutting down the Saffire, using the built-in output, then shutting down the MacBook. When I started everything up again the sound output wouldn't work. I'd open MixControl, flip the Sync and the sound would work. I am wondering if you have heard of a fix for this. I am on a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The only possiblility I know of so far is that my laptop is older and there is a sound card issue with MixControl 3.1, but that is pure speculation.

    Thanks,

    Wyatt

    Hi Wyatt,

Unfortunately I can't help you on that issue. I started the tread to resolve the problem I faced and, thanks to Focusrite, the fault was rectified. I'm not really an expert on the workings of the device, like most people I couldn't really give a **** as long as it works 8-)

Please keep us informed of any successes if it relates to this initial posting.

    Thanks.

    Hi Michael.

I've been reading all of this, and I'm in the middle of a recording session. All of a sudden the outputs on my Saffire Pro 40 dissapeared and I can't seem to playback or record anything. I read that on Focusrite Tech Support they are giving away this DiceTool.zip with the instructions on how to rewrite the firmware. Like I said, I was in the middle of a recording session and I had to let the musicians go because of this.

Is there any way that I can get a hold of that file as soon as possible through you? Because I really need to fix this. I'm using this: MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2012 // 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 // 8 GB RAM // OSX 10.8.3 //

    Thanks.

    Hi Mario,

Its sounds like the dice tool might not be the ultimate fix for your issue because you should be able to record with out it. You should contact techsupport @ http://us.focusrite.com/contact-support , we will be glad to help you with your issue.

    Hi, Michael!

Well, I actually read what I wrote and I didn't explained this too well (and I just realized that when I wrote to Tech Support, I didn't explained it too well either):

My Pro 40 as a hardware works fine, it can recognize that signal is going through. Here's the thing: I was about to listen to something that one of the musicians brought to the studio, when I realized that the "Active Monitor Pad" option was on, when I never did. I click on it and turned it off, and I think this caused the whole problem, because when I go to the Sound settings on System Preferences, the Pro 40 is recognized only as input, and for some reason, it does't show an output, therefor, it doesn't let me record, because it's trying to recognize the output.

I've tried to uninstall it (removing all the tools that were installed guided by the troubleshoot page on Focusrite), reinstalled it, and I almost came to a point of formating the internal HD and reinstalling Mac on my laptop. I also went to http://beta.focusrite.com/ and downloaded the beta version of Saffire Mix Control 3.2b1, since it said that it said that it was fixing some stuff like "unable to read from hardware", and "dissappearing outputs on the pro 40..." but no luck, so I was hoping that the DiceTool might work, but I guess it doesn't, maybe.

I'm truly sorry if I'm being stuborn about this, but I REALLY need help here as quick as possible. Like I said, I contacted Tech Support at the link you gave me. My case # is 193689 and if you can, please, put a rush on it, beacuse the band I'm recording right now, they are trying to take a demo with them to the States (I'm from El Salvador, by the way) to try their luck over there and I'm 2 songs from finishing the whole 5 EP.

If there's nothing you can do, well I do appreciate the time you took to respond to this. I'll try to wait

    Thanks again, man

    Hi Michael (michaeltownsfocusrite),

I am facing the same "no output" issue on my pro 40. I emailed support through the link recommended, and got assigned:

    (Case 195153) Saffire PRO 40

If there is anything you could do to expedite support for me, I'd be very grateful. I need to use my unit tomorrow evening. It's very disappointing to have this kind of issue happen to a brand new unit.

      Regards,

I'm having the same disappearing outputs problem with my brand new Pro 40 and emailed support as well (case

197658).  If there's anything I can do to get this resolved as quickly as possible please do let me know, I need to use the unit ASAP.

Apologies for the delay in responding.

I would suggest taking the Pro 40 back to the store and asking for a replacement (as you purchased it on 16/05/2013).

Otherwise wait for the advice, guidance and (possibly) the DiceTool that Focusrite may provide you.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance as I do know how frustrating this can be... Hang in there mate.

    (Case 198050) Saffire PRO 40

    Hi,

I submited my problem at Focusrite.

They sent me the PDF And the Dice tool to correct it.

I did it, and it doesn’t fixe anything.

So, from now, I think, that the best way is to return the unit to B&H NY

    cheers
