On startup, I get the OS X Utilities window with 4 options:

- Restore from time machine

- reinstall Mac OS X

- Get Help Online

- Disk Utility

When I tried to repair my MacIntosh HD, I got "disk utility can't repair this disk."

It says to "reformat" which I have no idea how to do.

I also tried to reinstall Lion, but it tells me my Recover HD "This disk is locked".

Need guidance. Thanks in advance.

Use the Erase function in the Disk Utility.

Have you got backup to restore your important data from? Obviously the erase function will wipe your internal HD of all its contents.

That's bad luck. Unfortunately, hard drives can fail at any time - even new out of the box. Good luck getting it fixed.
