I have a an airport extreme that creates my wifi in my house which is located on my second floor. I have an airport express in my living room to extend my wifi and it connected to a switch to give an internet connection for my tv, receiver, and xbox. The download speeds i get on my airport extreme i got well over 50MB, but down stairs on my express i get approximately 5MB download speeds. I understand I will be getting less speed when extending my range but it shouldn't go down that much. I originally had firmware 7.6.3 on my extreme and express. I was reading in here before about this firmware and found that it was a known issue so I downgraded to 7.6.1 on both machines. This worked for about a month but now the same download speed issue is occuring again. Any advice??

It is possible. The connection speed can only decrease. Try to find a location for your Express that enables it to receive a stronger signal from the Extreme. The ideal location for extending your wireless network may not be in the living room, though that won't help if you need to connect wired devices to it. Wireless networking is a study in compromises.

Feel free to experiment with the firmware versions, but I have not observed any problems whatsoever using 7.6.3 on any AirPort model, so I think that may be a fruitless endeavour.
