May 22, 2013 2:54 PM in response to spotter9by lllaass,Since Apple says
Error -1
Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Thus time for the Apple store.

May 27, 2013 4:29 AM in response to spotter9by KPSB73,Had the same problem, got a bum steer from Apple shop...buy a new one!
Is there some way to get thing to upgrade... I keep getting a -1 error. Tried a hard reset I believe... held down the power and home button about 10 secs until it rebooted and tried again to upgrade it.... always says error -1 ? Any info is appreciated.... thx
Strange. Have you tried kicking it into recovery mode?
Make sure you have a backup, then turn the ipod off. Then, while holding the home button connect your ipod to the computer. Keep holding the home button until you get the "connect to itunes" image. If for whatever reason you cannot get it restored from there, use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.

Thx, that helped me a lot. I tried for hours to update and always had that (-1) error message. This way it worked for me.

Jan 4, 2014 8:16 AM in response to spotter9by lopezjl,The same thing happened to me. My brother gave me his ipod touch 2G to let me daughter play with and I cannot get it to restore and do the software update on my mac. It keeps giving me the (-1) error. I tried to shut it down and hold the home button while connecting to the computer and it still gave me the
same error. I know it work just fine for him, but then again he was using a PC. Maybe I will try restoring on a PC. Any other suggestions? Thank you!
After I waited and said ok to the error it in fact DID restore! Wooohoo! Thank you!
