In reading the Dupe Guru web site it appears that it only deals with duplicate files and has absolutely no knoledge of how the iPhoto SQLite database is organized or works - so it you use it to delete duplicate photo files you will destroy your iPhoto lbrary and have to start over

My recomendation is not to use it - and if you do be sure to have a great, tested backup before you do

There is a dupeGuru PE that deals with photos. From their website:

dupeGuru Picture Edition is a tool to find duplicate pictures on your computer. Not only can dupeGuru PE find exact matches, but it can also find duplicates among pictures of different kind (PNG, JPG, GIF etc..) and quality. dupeGuru PE can also scan your iPhoto library. Give them a call

I did not say it would not deal with photos

    What I said was

The TOU for this forum state that you should test solutions prior to posting them - have you tested Dupe Guru on your iPhoto library and verified that it does not destroy it?

Until you do you should not be promoting it here

My recomendation is clear and stands -

That it can "scan" your iPhoto library does not mean that it will not destroy it - and again there is no indication that it has any concept of how iPhoto works and what can and can not be done safely

I have used the program on several ocasions and my iPhoto is still intact. Mine was a suggestion and in no way promoting this product. I will defer to your recommedations since you are more experienced then I on this forum

But I know nothing at all about Dupe Guru - only what I read on their web site and it gives me no confidence that it is safe - mayb eit is but it does not sound like it to me

I just ran a test with Dupe Guru and it's a disaster.  It is not designed to be used with an iPhoto Library as it removes/trashed photos essentially from the Finder rendering the library a mess.  DON'T USE DUPE GURU on an iPhoto Library.
