Did you try going to: File > Library > Get Album Artwork?

I did and unfortunately it didn't fix it
I have tried starting iTunes in 32 bit mode and that fixed most (but not all) of my movies
With the TV shows its even weirder - for 1 series the 1st episode has the correct artwork, episodes 2 to 13 have the artwork tab greyed out so I can't even manually add any artwork and episodes 14 to 16 have no artwork but the artwork tab is active so I have the option of adding artwork manually
All episodes of this series were bought through the iTunes Store

Ok - I may have found a fix
I deleted episode 2 and then re downloaded it from the store - this time with iTunes running in 32 bit mode and I know have the correct artwork for it
I have just deleted all the remaining episodes and I am downloading them again with iTunes running in 32 bit mode - I'll see how things look in a couple of hours
Looking like an issue with 64 bit iTunes

An alternative fix is to delete the downloaded movie but keep the file when it asks you, and then reimport it from your extrenal drive into iTunes. It is irritating but this works.
