Q: Backup and restore of wiki

I know this has been up several times before, but I can't find an answer anywhere.

I want to simulate a data loss in wiki server to write a document to follow when it happens for real. (it will, sooner or later, and if I've prepared the tech guy in duty at the moment can restore it fast)

1) Which files to back up?

As I understand the files are spread among a postgre database and files at /Library/Server/Wiki/ - so, we need an automatic database dump at least once a day. No info about this in the Server application. Some sources say Postgre does a backup every night as default, but the supposed folder does not exists in any of our servers. /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup/

These files will have an application encrypting and coping them off location. (We use Crashplan PROe)

2) Procedures for restoring?

Ok, so now we need to restore the information on a server. Move the files back, but what are the commands to bring the database dump back into the database?

3) Has anyone restored Wiki database in OSX Server?

Comments, thoughts, experiences.

The text of the wiki pages is in the Postgres database.  The images included in the pages, and the files uploaded to the wiki, are in the folder you mentioned.

I agree that the backup process mentioned by a lot of people doesn't seem to be working correctly, at least in my installation.

You can take a backup the content that's in the Postgres database.  See these two for an understanding of how it works:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5082

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5585

but note that both articles ignore the issue of the images that go with the pages.  Presumably the author didn't think of them.

Hah, I've seen that article several times and even followed the instructions to migrate from 10.6.8. Thank you for pointing out its about moving between two osx servers (2.2) as well.

They did in that part mention the extra files.

So, question 2 answered. Question 1 remains, since it doesn't mention anything about automatic database dumping.

    Q3 is always interesting! :)

I have used the method in one of those articles to transfer a few individual wikis from one 10.8 server to another.  Worked fine, except, if I recall correctly, it transferred the text of the pages fine but not the images in the wiki (which includes the icons for each wiki itself).  That's how I discovered that the images were elsewhere.
