Q: Copyrights and Territory Rights Inquiry

My book is published and online in  51 countries but not in my country, Israel. The answer from Apple was: "Books currently available for the Israel iBookstore are public domain." What this means?  If I'm looking in Israeli store are a lot of books for sale.

How they put the books online?

iBook, iOS 5.0.1

All the ibooks in the Israeli iTunes store are free, so they are probably all old books which are now out of copyright (so are 'public domain') - there aren't any that are paid-for books. I assume that the book publishers haven't yet granted Apple (or not enough have)  to sell any recent/current books there, so at the moment there are only free ones.

Really?  Apple's note says Paid books are not available yet in the Israel store:

Yes, you are right! This is the situation in ibook store. But, if I'm looking in App Store, book sections there is does not seem for me to be a public domain. How can I upload books there?

The App Store is totally different.  You have to create an app.   Nothing to do with iBooks.

If you have produced an .epub book, perhaps you could sell it in Israel via one of the other stores, like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.  Books from these stores are also not restricted to iOS devices but can also be read on laptops/desktops, which may be an advantage.

At the moment there are only free ibooks (or 'public domain' as they are out of copyright) in the Israeli store - I don't think that you will be able to have your ibook available there until paid-for books are sold there (we won't know when that might happen until if/when Apple announce something)
