Q: iTunes is not accepting my password - again.

Why do they constantly have issues with this?  When I type in my user name and password is just flashes back to needing to type in my user name and password again and again.  I even tried changing my password to no avail.

I have the same problem with password rejection.  Restarting itunes resolves the issues but is a pain.

Had this happen yesterday on my iphone and today on my new iMac. *****. iPhone fixed itself overnight. iMac fixes after relaunch. I have not switched yet to the two step verification - not sure if that makes any differemce.

I have this same problem.  The original problem started sometime earlier this year (2013) and has recently changed into the "even more annoying" version.

I am signed in to the store (safari cookie blocking in default "third party" mode), but when I try to buy something, it asks for my password and keeps looping the prompt until I hit cancel.  It used to be that even though it kept looping the prompt, it would make the purchase after entering the password once.  Now, however, it just doesn't allow the purchase.  I have to use the work around of signing out and signing back in, and then renavigating to wherever I was trying to make the purchase.  Then it will make that purchase, but if I try to buy something later, the whole thing repeats itself.

On the up side, I end up not spending money.

    So there is that.

I realize this is a Mac/iTunes thread, but I found it because I'm having the exact same issue on my Windows 8 laptop with iTunes 11.0.3.  Worse for me is that restarting iTunes isn't helping.  I am logged on this thread just fine, and can log on from my browser to Apple store just fine. I just cannot access the store from iTunes at all.  I keep getting the same screen as the one posted on this thread;  uknown error.  Add me to totally annoyed list.

I just called applecare about this. They are so **** clueless. She had me run disk utility and do the test account. So annoying, plus the tier 1 support person I spoke to kept repeating "That's fine" so annoying. Apple please fix.

well the only thing that could manage me to "fix" was to downgrade the iTunes to 11.0.2

but if you want to do what i did, you can even choose which version you want to downgrade, download the .dmg in this link>>> http://www.iphonefirmware.com/download-old-versions-of-itunes/

and almost following all steps from this link >> http://www.emacconsulting.com/apple/itunes/downgrade-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7/

    ****here is what i did****

what i had to do was to download the app called Pacifist in this website , install, (since it is freeware, you will have to wait 15 seconds to click in the button, NOT YET listed in there ) choose the .dmg itunes from "open package button"

highlight "Contents of iTunes 11.0.2" (or the version of your choice) and click in the arrow upleft corner "Install"

when a popup box appears, you will be asked to enter your password credentials, and  check to run as administrator, when other popups appears check the box "not show this again in this installation" and hit "Replace" and after hit "update" in the next one.

so after finishing, itunes wont open, you will have to create a new itunes library by openning itunes holding Option Key in your keyboard,

the new itunes folder will be create where had the last one before.

    alright...

now you will have to enter in your old itunes folder and in "Open" all of your musics and apps (inside the iTunes media folder, and Mobile applications for apps)...easy way to do that is selecting all of them, and hit enter of simple click,

so it will be transfered to the "new" Itunes.

    and that is it...

you now can enjoy itunes again without the password problem.

btw you will be promped with a popup of iTunes asking you if you want to update to iTunes 11.0.3, check "not to show this again" and hit the "not now" button.

    best regards.

i did the same before, downloading from the Apple website,

i thought it was fixed, but some minutes later, i realized it wasnt, the same problem occurred...

so thats why i decided to downgrade.

I've been experienceing this problem too.  If I select "View Account" and sign in, it accepts my password, I can then go out and purchase without being prompted for my password.  But, if I just try to buy something it rejects my password.  This really needs to be fixed, and I aught to be able to disable the password prompt if I wish.
