    hi pegaudet,

thanks for the explanations. unfortunately you're right - i read somewhere in the forum that if i deauthorize and then authorize again, it will set the counter up, i.e. to 5, because it's currently at 4 computers, 2 broken ones and my 2 that i'm currently using (and i'm not able to listen to my music on more than 5 comps.).

i wasn't able to deauthorize my music on the old computers that don't work anymore. if a computer crashes, it still counts as an authorized computer for the music. that's really stupid!

is there a possibility to deauthorize these two broken computers somewhere? if i buy two new comps, i will no longer be able to play my music on them, because it will be nr. 5 and 6!!

actually i don't understand this. i bought about 5000 songs at the itunes store, started many years ago. so what will happen with the older songs that survive more than 2 generations of computers (i always have a laptop and a desktop computer)???? do i have to burn everything on cds and rip them as aac files back to itunes, in order not to have this hassle with authorizations???? its such a freakin' complicated process!!!!! hate it!!!! i hate itunes 11!!!!! and i have such a huge legacy on it!!! 250GB of music, hundreds of playlists, on which i spent millions of hours of organizing work, and now it can no longer be managed without multiple windows (playlists etc.). was trying for hours today, and only cleaned up like 50 songs. it's gonna take me months to get the state i had before that itunes 11 desaster!

and before you suggest to roll back to itunes 10, i can't do that, because it's gonna mess up my syncing with iphone, ipod, contacts, agenda, all the stuff i added since i installed itunes 11. that's too complicated, and it's not a sustainable solution. what if they bring security updates or won't support older itunes versions one day?

i want apple to give me back the basic functions they killed. there is no reason at all to kill basic functions and usability. why did they do that? do you know why they don't allow me to open more than one window at once? this doesn't make sense to me!!! and now this freaking authorization thing. each time i sit down and try to calm down and start using itunes, after hours of swearing and trying without any success, i give it up, write some angry posts on the forum and angry emails to apple, without any success, and curse the day i blindly updated to itunes 11, not knowing what a hassle it's going to be!!!!!! i do love the mac hardware, but the apple software is getting unusable...

i can't even listen to a specifically sorted list of songs in the music library!!! it jumps around in an implausible way and just plays any song within the library. do i really have to add the library to "next up" if i for instance sort by date added? that doesn't make sense to me. i want to sort and start playing in that order. period. why does it have to be so complicated??? that was possible before. now i have to create a separate playlist for every part i want to play from the library in a specific order... that's completely stupid!

there are NO SOLUTIONS. itunes 11 is just such a useless version.

i stopped buying songs from the itunes store. only buy cds or download on other platforms without drm such as youtube. great success for apple, isn't it? i do hope that they will experience a significant decrease of sales volume. maybe that will force them to think of all the loyal apple customers that have spent a fortune on their hard- and software and media and now are disappointed....

Go to your iTunes account page, you can deauthorize all computers from there, then reauthorize the 2 you want to use and you'll have 3 authorizations left.

iPhones/Pads/Pods do not need authorization, so don't count against the limit of 5.

thanks, this worked so far. i really do hope that this won't add any new problems now. (not so sure to be honest)

but do you know why on earth i got this message "please authorize this computer to play this song" over and over again? i really had to delete the songs with this message and redownload them from the cloud to get them to play... only a few songs had this problem.

and why is it not possible to play songs from the music library directly in a special order? please explain... thanks.

Explain, how do you sort his list, how do you tell iTunes only to play that list, is it a separate playlist?

no. i just open the music folder, click on "songs", then sort by date added and want to start by double clicking on the first song. but after that song it jumps to another random song. and i don't have activated the "play random" icon. you can't even see such a button in this view (music - sorted by date added)...

    2 places:

Here (in the display window) In this case Repeat is off (it's black) and shuffle is on (it's blue) clicking on it will turn it off.

And here (on the Controls menu).

Additional Shuffle options are available if you click on the arrow next to the word.

It's always available from the menu, doesn't matter which view or what's playing.

Shall I assume that it was turned on?

in a music player i never use the menu! i want to have the functions visible as icons. as it was before in itunes 10. now the functions are spread all over where i would never expect them. the mini player doesn't even show me the progress of a song, and for the volume i have to open a separate menu. and - no shuffle or repeat icon at all. that has nothing to do with user friendliness! i had the same problem with the microsoft office products. in word they changed the place of the functions several times. if you have to work with a program efficiently, and have to go to a forum asking where they put this or that function every time when you want to do something, this is really annoying!! i can't believe that apple went down the drain this fast. with itunes 11 they almost beat the uselessness of microsoft programs!!

i mean, if you offer icon bars, then please put the icons where you can see them. and in every view in the same place, not like it is right now, when ever you change the view, you have to search the functions again. is that user friendly??? if you take a remote of a tv set and the place of the buttons would change when ever you change a program, would this be user friendly? it's really a disaster!!

I give you the solution to two of the issues that you could not figure out for yourself, but you lack the grace to do anything but continue to whine, ughhh.

    You're welcome.

great. now i have another problem: i wanted to play several songs that i purchased last year. now i get a message that i have to authorize the computer first. if i do so with my apple ID, there's a second message that this computer is already authorized. but it won't play the song, i get the message to authorize the computer over and over again.

if i delete it from the library and want to check the itunes store purchase list, they say "we are temporarily unable to load your purchased items. cool, isn't it?

what can i do without deleting and redownloading all the songs that aren't "authorized" although they are already authorized? and how can i find out which songs are not authorized? (but they were authorized on this computer before, what happened here anyway? anyone with the same problem?)

    @uneek777

Aparently, apple just released itunes 11.0.4 today which is supposed to fix some things including your repeated authorization problem.

Here is a link to a blog on the release:

    maybe it will help?
