I just don't understand why Apple continues to take great features away. Did no one in beta testing say anything?? Please bring iTunes DJ back!!! I've submitted my feedback urging to resurrect the feature.

What makes any of you think that Apple is listening? This forum is certainly not something they care about. It is just a forum for people to chat. The feedback ability to Apple is also something useless. It is a way for people to express their frustration, and then hopefully they will go away. As it exists, people have a harder time *proving* that Apple don't care. I've had several issues where I tried the feedback, and never have anything meaningful come out of it. Not even when my issue have been something that essentially would result in me giving money to Apple. That is how little they care. Their core business is running great. They are making heaps of money. Why would they care about people complaining?

Let's face it. iTunes 11 suck. It will not change. Apple do not care about people who complain. All we do is confirm to each other that we are not alone in disagreeing with what Apple do. Sooner or later Apple will fall on hard times, and then people will ask what went wrong.

"I have a fix. And do not blow this off as another smart playlist shuffle function, becouse this one actually works.

Create a smart playlist that will include everything that has one, two, three, four, or five stars.

Create a smart playlist that will include everything that has two, three, four, or five stars.

Create a smart playlist that will include everything that has three, four, or five stars.

Create a smart playlist that will include everything that has four or five stars.

Create a smart playlist that will include everything that has five stars.

Then create a smart playlist that will include all 5 of these playlists.

    Shuffle the last smart playlist."

I have tried this, but I don't think it works. The new 'big' smart playlist that is created indeed consists of all the songs from all playlists, but there are no duplicates (i.e. I would expect that my one-star songs would be featured only once in this playlist, but my five-star songs to be featured five times - however, that's not the case). I then tried to shuffle the playlist and see if higher rated songs would appear relatively more often during the first like 200 shuffles, but that's also not the case. Either I'm still doing something wrong, or this 'fix' unfortunately doesn't work.

There is a fresh resurgence of attention to this issue on some new threads - if you continue to be bothered/affected by the regressive loss of iTunes functionality in the removal of the DJ functions (which I am, and most in this thread are) please pipe up on these other new threads:

It doesn't replace the full functionality of iTunesDJ. And it just another smart playlist scheme.   It doesn't randomly play anything in your library... it also forces me to change my rating scheme as my rating system is that 3 stars and above are on my iPod.   2 stars are not on my iPod... and 1 star is damaged and needs repair also doesn't appear on my iPod.

The funny thing pretty much ALL the other missing features (album artwork in list view, mini player scrubber etc.) have been adressed, EXCEPT the most requested one. I just sent another message to http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html pointing this out.

Actually, the three critical features omitted from iTunes 11 have STILL not been addressed by Apple:

    1. iTunes DJ is, of course, still missing - most likely because Apple intends instead to drive DJ users to adopt the new music streaming service they're rumored to be working on.

    2. The recent tweak to iTunes 11 only gives you thumbnails of artwork in List View. There's still no access to a view of artwork at actual size, as you get by clicking on the artwork panel in the sidebar of iTunes 10.6. And there's still no Cover Flow - which I agree is not terribly useful for managing the main library, but IS extremely useful when working with playlists of 25-50 songs.

    3. There is still no capability to open playlists in separate windows, which is essential when you want to compare playlists and/or work effectively back-and-forth between a playlist and the main library.

All of this is in anticipation of the day when your content all resides in the cloud, it is managed by Apple - not by you, and the only functionlity you'll need (and the only functionality you'll get) is what comes with an iPad.

Hi mefcc, well, crap, I think you are right on.  This *****.  I only use itunes with DJ....otherwise, i might listen to an Alblum every now and then.

what a load!  This is always all I ever have done with itunes, airplay, and all my sound systems.

what happened?  Who is calling these shots???

Well, i'm just depressed after reading your analysis.   I'm really checking out 'updates' for everything now.  Skype just had an update that tagged all your emails in outlook with a little box telling whether or not the people you addressed were on-line or not (windows)---I had to go to the registry editor to turn that off.  nuts.

Someone please write some new, good, music management software....

And there is a big case coming up with the Supreme court about whether or not you really own stuff that you buy and download...1984.  George Orwell was just a little too early.

My partner made a mistake and upgraded to V11. I have just spent the weekend getting it back to V10.

All said before but I just wanted to add my voice. No Itunes DJ, Cant rescale icons in page layout of movies. Scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll. So they mess up maps, produce a shockingly bad new imac, mess up itunes. Each one of these is moving me a step closer to jumping away from Apple.

I am so glad to see this thread. Like multiple folks mentioned...I hope Apple listens.    I did voice my opinion in their feedback option.

Having been an avid Apple product user (not avid towards the company) since 1990, I hate to see them migrate more and more to the Windows way of doing things. They are taking the fun out of owning Apple products just so they can win over some Windows users. Thing is, the PC will eventually become a minor player as the tablets take over.

Anyhow, here is a link on how to revert back to iTunes 10.7   http://news.idg.no/cw/art.cfm?id=6745EEDC-D375-F653-E33254EEBCA1978C

Not sure if the process in the link works, but based on what they say (about getting the error code), I lived that part, and being it's from ComputerWorld, I hope so.  There is some 3d part software to buy, but it sure takes away the iTunes frustration.   If someone has tried this process and can verify it works, we'd be pleased if you could post a reply.

Having reverted to 10.7 twice, first time, I just deleted/reinstalled iTunes.  No good.  I got the -42422 error and couldn't buy anything on the iTunes store (which isn't all that big a deal, but it also affected accessing my apps for my iPhone--A problem).

Another way to revert, is how I did the 2d time: after backing up via Time Machine, I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6. Afterward installing the systems, I reinstalled my files.  BUT, you do need to be careful about ensuring you save your User files where your personalization of the applications has been recorded---as in, for example, scores for games.    After the wipe/reinstall, everything was fine until I downloaded the Combo 10.6.8 update.  Now, I have iTunes 11 again.   Bleah.

If I find something for Cover flow, I'll post it.    If you were able to save your Front Row application, it has a very nice graphic view of the albums with a black background.  Very classy.  But, Apple dropped that.    Brilliant.   Thing is, at a certain point of os 10.6, the OS prevents you from loading Front Row if you don't have it on your computer already.      And, even though I have Front Row 1.7, I can't upgrade to 2.x

    Sad, Apple, very sad.

Well today they did it.  My computer told me my itunes program was corrupted and I WOULD HAVE to update it.  I Am a very unhappy camer with apple.  I ejoyed my itunes dj and being able to see my history and what was coming up next all on the same page.  Now it is gone.  Done, fini.  Gah!  I am angry and to download 10.6.3, is 170 mg.  I have limited bandwidth before I am throttled.  Just great.

Any easy solution to these issues?

    thanks
