Just be aware that some or all of your old apps on the G5 may not work on an Intel Mac, especially if you are migrating to a new Mac that has Lion or Mt. Lion installed.  PPC apps need Rosetta to run on an Intel Mac and Apple discontinued Rosetta when Lion was released.

You will probably want to check your applications first to be sure they will be compatable with the new Mac and the version of OS X it will be running.

Also note that Power PC (PPC) apps will run on Lion or Mountain Lion. If you have PPC based apps on the G5 then you're going to have to upgrade all of them to run on ML. Considering a G5 is a PPC based machine that could be an issue for you.
