Q: Obtaining installation media/files

         Hi all:

I am an IT manager for a company that has an older 24" Intel based iMac.  The machine was purchased prior to my coming onboard and had been replaced with newer Macs. There isn't anything wrong the unit so I'd like to put it back into production as a workstation for freelancers that visit infrequently. I want to completely reimage the unit prior to deployment.  The problem is I can't find any discs or manuals that came with it when it was purchased.  The only information I have is the order information (MacMall, date of purchase, order number, etc.)

The purchase information shows that it originally came with OS X 10.5.  But I'm guessing that with the 3 year Extension plan that was purchased with it the option to upgrade was available since it is currently running OS X 10.6.8.

My question is where and how do I get the installation media to erase and reinstall the OS if the original disc cannot be located?  Is there a way?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 24" ; Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz

Phone AppleCare and order replacement original disks, or if you don't need iLife or the Apple Hardware Test, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

Niel,  thanks for taking time to respond.

I will need to read up on the benefits of iLife and Apple Hardware Test as I'm not familiar with those.

Am I to understand that there is no method for downloading and burning the content myself to DVD without any cost involved?  I just assumed that since the unit was purchased and licensed with those OS levels that material should be available somewhere without cost.

    Thanks again.

Unless you originally got those OS versions as a download, they're not available as one.
