Q: Calendar - Exchange sync issue

I'm having a problem with Calendar and Exchange syncing (my company uses Exchange 2010), with the following error:

"Calendar can’t save the event “Item title” to the Exchange server.

The account "Exchange" currently can’t be modified. To discard your changes and continue using the version of your calendars that’s on the server, click Revert to Server."

The options on the dialog box are:

Revert to Server

Try Again

Ignore

Syncing in general is working, i.e., items added in either system show up as they should. And, I'm not actually changing anything on the items on my MBA. The error pops up apparently randomly--so far, at least, I haven't been able to identify a pattern. I've checked credentials, which seem to be correct, and I've verified that time zone settings are turned on as I think they're supposed to be.

Any ideas?

I have my server with Intermedia, and I think they have UTC as timezone.

So I'll assume for the moment that the server time zone doesn't matter.

Wondering now if the "Set time zone automatically using current location" option in System Preferences has any role in this. I turned it off and made sure that I have New York selected in the OS and Calendar. I think that's what Inxcuu was getting at.

If that doesn't work, I'll go looking for someplace in Eastern that doesn't do DST, I guess.

I think the problem is related to Exchange and Calendar.app not using the same nomenclature. This causes that the Calendar.app request to Exchange is rejected...

If that were true nobody would be able to sync an Exchange calendar on OSX, and that is not the case.

I have had this problem for some time, "Calendar can’t save the event “xxx” to the Exchange serve" - which refers to a delegates event I'm not trying to modify Discinnecting and reconnecting to the Exchange server only gives temporary relief.  Time zones not an issue in my case.

A better solution would be good if anyoine has one.

This has been fixed in my case with the latest Office Mac 2011 update to Outlook and specifically this item in the notes seems to have resolved it:

"Coordinated Universal Time was not included when you created a calendar event in Outlook for Mac Adds Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+0 without a DST offset) to the list of available time zones when you create a calendar event." - Description of the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.3.2 Update

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817452

This drove me nuts for months but finally taken care of it seems by the always careless folks at Microsoft.

Things seemed to be going well after I futzed with the OS time zone settings, but now it's starting to come back again (though ten days without errors might actually be a new record for me). Sigh.

Is it still working for you, Victor? My next move may be to look for a place here in the East that doesn't do Daylight Saving Time.

I experienced the same problem. After disabling and deleting the accounts several time, the error kept coming back.

Finally I found a solution on this website: http://www.nutmeghelp.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=110

Deleting the calendar.cache file removed the message.

    Hello all!

After so much time spending on this reached this thread and it looks like I've workarounded the issue merging the different attempts for solution you all threw at.

So far, I've created an appointment in OSX Calendar and iPad Calendar and successfully. My Blackberry phone is also syncing with these Calendar entries

It is also working for creating tasks with the "double click" method right on the Calendar.

    Here it is:

    Started following:

    - go to Calendar Preferences and delete de Exchange Account.

    - close (Calendar->Quit Calendar) Calendar

    - go to Terminal and delete "rm -rf *" all the files inside username/Library/Calendars/

    - open Calendar

    - go to Calendar->Preferences->Advanced and Turn on time support (if it is already enabled, disable it, close calendar and then re-enabled it)

    - in the upper-right-corner of calendar, select your Timezone (very important to select your timezone before adding the Exchange account)

**Here is a change: Used TZ "Central Standard Time - Saskatoon - Canada" as it was proven to work in previous posts

    - close (Calendar->Quit Calendar) Calendar

    - open Calendar

    - go to Calendar->Preferences->Accounts and add the Exchange Account OR -re-enable the "Calendar and Tasks" part for this account in System Preferences.

**Finally, disabled Time Support to "recover" my own timezone (based on System Preferences)

    - go to Calendar->Preferences->Advanced Turn OFF time support.

Nowdays we're using DST in Mexico City and its working, so DST worries looks like not related as stated in prev posts.

Please try it, I have been working for almost 3 sync cycles without sending the annoying "Can't update Exchange Calendar... Revert, Retry, Ignore" pop-up.

    Regards!

I've been disappointed so many times now that I'm going to wait until someone (anyone!) reports that they got this to stick for at least a month. Until then I'll keep using Exchange's web interface, clunky as it is.

    Grrr.

I don't usually jump on OS updates on the day of release, but when I saw "Microsoft Exchange compatibility improvements in Calendar" on the changelog for 10.8.4, I bit.

Now to see if they picked our favorite compatibility issue to fix…

10.8.4 update did not resolve the issue for us using an an existing account where the error was present. IE. We did not attempt removing the account and deleting cache etc.
