For some the FileTransferAgent responsible for iMessages sendings tends to "get Stuck".
By this I mean if you open Activity Monitor then the IMFileTranferAgent item appears (it should only flash up and disappear as soon as the file/pic leaves your end)
You may also find the File Transfer Window (See Window Menu) lists the file or pic in some sort of "waiting" or failed state.
iMessages ones often say there is "no Put container"
Highlight the item in Activity Monitor if it shows up and use the Quit Button and confirm a Force Quit.
You may find this releases a whole host of pics you have tried sending or coverts them in the Transfer window to being properly "Failed"
There is a separate URLFileTRasferAgent that is for AIM and Jabber File Transfers.
I have not worked out why either of them "hang" in Activity Monitor or any other causal effect.

Thank you for explaining the components of what was going on. You were exactly right. I looked in the spots you suggested. Oddly, without any action nor changes on my end, the problem cured itself about 36 hours later.
