    Hi,

    The Article says

    • A fix for an issue that may cause iMessages to display out of order in Messages

This would appear to suggest that there are multiple possible causes and that the "fix" listed is only singular.

The 10.8.4 update did NOT fix the problem for me.  It's better but messages are STILL out of order.  It seems to happen when waking the computer up from sleep when iMessage is open.  Quitting iMessage and launching it again seems to reorder the messages properly but that's a lame workaround.  It would really be great if Apple would take fixing this seriously and let the interns work on something else!

This issue has been ongoing for me since beta. As of the 10.8.4 release, the issue is appearing slightly less but still very much present.

I strongly suggest people send Apple feedback about this if they haven't already done so.

Just another vote that Messages are still out of order even after the 10.8.4 "fix".

I am having the same issue.  Ironically when I go to file the bug report, I can't pick 10.8.4 in the dropdown.  I guess that's one way to prevent people from reporting bugs that were supposedly "fixed".

    Keep sending feedback....

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

...or call AppleCare (if you have that option).

Either way, be sure to inform Apple how this issue is affecting you and your Mac.

If possible call Apple Care, otherwise your chances that someone at Apple will take action are near zero. Apple technicians need well documented cases to escalate an issue. This can't be done with the feedback form.

DigiFruit: I'd appreciate learning how you know that issues reported through Apple's feedback web-form have "near zero" chance of seeing attention. If that is actually the case, I would stop using it to report bugs.

Agreed. Apple does investigate bug reports--especially concise, well-written ones.

Those written in the digital equivelant of crayon might not get as much attention, but that's just my conjecture.

dmbrownaa, I say so because I know from experience how rigid the process for Apple Care is, how many tests and clean install scenarios they let you go through before they escalate the issue to the development team in charge. So submitting an issue without any testing and clean install scenarios won't help much, besides giving Apple a hint that there is an issue that affects x amount of users.

    Hi,

I would still push people towards http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html

It has a free text area.

It does lack server iChat and Messages options from the App Version drop down.

It currently lacks OS X 10.8.4 in the OS version drop down.

(it has always lagged behind in this respect since iChat 3).

I have aloways found this very useful

I commented on this Apple Doc and saw edits following that mostly to th4e Notes section at the bottom.

I have the exact same experience. The "fix" only comes into affect if I relaunch the application. If I just have it running in the background, messages still get jumbled out of order whenever I wake the machine from standby. Obviously they partially fixed it on app relaunch, one would think it would be a somewhat easy workaround for them just to include code that reorders the messages properly upon wake... ugh.

Just to let you know, I'm still on this issue with Apple Support and it's currently escalated to the iCloud technicians. I've verified that this issue still exists on a clean 10.8.4 install. The issue isn't wide spread but it exists and exists on a clean install system. I've no idea what the parameters are that trigger this issue for a subset of users, but it definitely isn't everyone who's affected. So if anyone of you too is able to call Apple Support it would be a good idea, so that more reports are coming in.

Can someone clearly explain to me how a COMPUTER can't sort messages that are DATE AND TIME STAMPED?!?!?

In a few years I've gone from an Apple fanboy to not trusting them. I was just about to plunk down $1200 for a new Air until I started reading how the wifi is cutting out for a lot of people. A brand new computer and they can't even get the wifi for work. And I shake my head every time I read how willing people are to do things like restart the computer or the Messages app or restore the iPhone to factory settings and then spend 3 days to reload all their info on to it. These are not solutions. My 25 year old Panasonic television never needs to be restarted to produce an image. Never once. And it's twenty-five years old. But I have to restart my current MBP quite regularly to get something to start working.

I hope you do realize that from the millions of customers who have no issues with these products this here is the small fraction that has some issues? Apple is also willing to resolve issues if you call them. They've been very generous to me in the case they couldn't help.
