I have 4 devices that share one Apple ID for purchases and I use FaceTime and Messages between all 4 devices by adding additional email addresses for the contact at address on each device. You can keep the Apple ID email address or assign the iPhone numbers on the phones for the "contact/you can be reached at" address as well.
