Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
If the internal battery in that machine has never been replaced, or if the one in it now is about 4 years or more old, try replacing it. They do wear out over time, and they drain faster the more time the machine sits unplugged with no live power available; they are never recharged in the machine.
If replacing it on that model is a user-level procedure, then just get a new one at Radio Shack and do it. Instructions should be in the manual that came with the machine.
If the manual's instructions say it is a tech support replacement item, then take it to an AASP and have it done.G4/500; G4/733; various OS's, Mac OS 9.1.x, DSL, enet
