there is no auto-update.  your phoen won't apply the update unless you tell it to.

No such thing, iOS never updates without you initiating or authorizing it.

It does not auto download.  Alll it does is tell you that an update is available

No, the only thing you'll see is a red "1" on the Settings icon.  iOS will not auto download or install.

I had a terrible time downgrading (lost a few things in the process) to iOs6 last night and now, like a virus, ios7 seemes to have crept back in. Unwanted!

Anyone knows how to delete thi waste of a gigabyte from the iphone?

It shows up already as "downloaded"

    Many thanks in advance.

With all due respect, your wrong!!!  I've come across numerous posts on the web discussing the issue of uninitiated downloads of iOS 6 & 7.  Check out the following thread, in which there are numerous posts, mine included.

Nope. You are wrong on both accounts, I'm afraid.

After reinstalling ios 6 a second time, ios7 started the download automatically on my iphone.

The other thing you got wrong was grammar. Check out

First off, if you had read my post in the thread I included, I specifically stated that iOS 7 had on three occassions automatically downloaded on my iPhone 4, twice after setting up the phone as new.

Secondly, "your" was a typo, something you'll find in the vast majority of posts.

I have to agree with Seanachai here.  I have two iPhone 5s and for some apparent reason one of the iPhones automatically downloaded iOS 7 and now shows Install as the only option under Settings-General-Software Updates.  So ios 7 is now sitting there waiting to be installed and taking up about 3GB of space on the phone.  The other phone shows iOS 7 as an update with the Download and install button but has not downloaded it yet when viewed under Settings-General-Software Updates.  I did not initiate the download on the one phone as the only option through the phone was Download AND Install

The only thing I can think happened was when I connected the phone (the one that automatically downloaded iOS 7 on its own) to iTunes and it asked if I wanted to download and install iOS 7 , I selected download only so I would have it waiting in iTunes when I did decide to move up to iOS 7. A day or so later this phone started the download on the phone all by itself

Other strange thing is that the other iPhone does not display the red 1 on settings telling me there is an update.  I can only assume it has something to do with the fact that all of the apple devices we have are all hooked to the same iTunes account
