Q: how to install bootcamp on windows 7 64 bit on late 2006 imac

I ma trying to get Windows 2007 ultimate to install boot camp on my late 2006 24"CTO iMac. I am able to install the OS but when it come to install bootcamp it tells me that 64 bit is not supported on this machine. I need to be able to install it so all drivers get installed and the boot selector gets installed.

The machine I know is not true 64 bit and I wish it was a cheap way to make it 64 bit but I can't afford a new Mac at this time.

The specs are:

2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo

4 GB Ram

1 TB HD

256 MB Nvidia 7600GT

24" High Res Display upgrade

Thanks for the help and if it is no way then I am stuck with using the alt or option key at boot to select OXS after a reboot out of Windows 7.

Tim

Your iMac does not run 64 bit Windows. See the following table from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

I used the instruction from this site and was able to get it installed and working. The installation was not the problem of Windows it was just the bootcamp install and this helped with that. The problem is solved.

Windows 64 bit is working fine on the late 2006 iMac. I still have to get all the other software installed. Then I might run into problems but for now all updates are installed, printers and other hardware.

I just wish they would make a cheap MOBO that would changeout to make it true 64 bit and all issues would be resolved. I have even thought about buying and newer model with the screen broken and see if the MOBO would fit or the screen from mine in that one.

Thanks for the information and the help,
