This is a bit odd. Running a 2006 Mac Pro, the OS is 10.7.5. Flash is not installed. I noticed by accident that when Firefox is running Safari is very slow loading pages, the beach ball of doom makes frequent visits sometimes for minutes at a time. If I quit Firefox then Safari starts running well again. Anyone else had this?

Try turning off Extensions in Safari. Safari > Preferences > Extensions

And try turning disabling plugins. Safari > Preferences > Security. Deselect  Allow all other plug-ins

If it's not an extension or plugin issue, try disabling anti virus software if installed. Same for any apps such as LIttle Snitch.
