After I downloaded Mountain Lion, I found out that iCal no longer has a to-do list, as it has been replaced with reminders. I am a huge user of the iCal to do list, and need a to do list that has color coding lists and due dates, as well as one unified list. Therefore, reminders really doesn't do it for me. Anyone know an app that is as simple as the iCal to-do list but has all the old features, or how to get the old iCal back? Thanks!

    Thank you for your help, mende1. Unfortunately, none of those to-do lists offer me all of the features I am looking for. I never realized how picky I was since iCal was perfect. The best of those is SimpleTask, but it seems to not have due dates.

    BusyCal. It still has the calendar and the To-Do list all in the same place. I think that's what you're looking for.

    You have got to be kidding me. Why does Apple think they can delete a major feature that many people use? Also, my mac seems slower after the upgrade. Plus, there's a Time Machine-based bug where a "file:" dialog complains regularly. I had to create a new backup and sacrifice my old. This is really poor work on their part.

    As best I can tell it's been replaced by the "Reminders" app as per Apple's "one app for each thing" policy. It was nice being able to see both in one place. If you still want to see due dates in iCal, I'd suggest setting an all-day event. Shame it makes you double the work to get at the old functionality … I'm not sure the makers of the Swiss Army Knife would sell a product where you had to get at each function in a different tool.

    Omar, I agree. I hate that so much that I shelled out the money and bought BusyCal, which does things the way they ought to be done. Take a look at it. It isn't cheap but it saves me a lot of time, so it's worth it.

    OK I'm the odd one, I guess.  I really like Reminders.  I never used To Do because it didn't make much sense to me for the 20 seconds of focused attension I gave it.  For some reason I couldn't remember where it was, Mail or Calendar.  I'd remember if I used it more I suppose, but it seemed to be a sort of duplication of enties on the calendar - and all I want is a list of things without having to think of anything more than "I gotta do blank".  I like the ability to make different lists of reminders so that if, say, a photo shoot upgrades from "likely" to "on calendar" I just drag it over.  And then on over to "invoice" when it's done.  If I want a wake up call I put it on the calendar.

    Hopefully you've found a replacement around. Having to work with OS X Mavericks, I've noticed most of your requested features are there:

    ~ 'coded lists [1]

    * Due dates

    * Unified list [2]

    1: you can't color-code but you can set up to three priorities. Honestly for some people, like yourself and me included, this doesn't work because of how we are but this is where the feedback comes in. The worse of the worse, Apple gets feedback to mull over and some small developer gets a little help making a living.

    2: shift-selecting the lists will show you all the selected items.

    Good luck if still searching!

    Aside: yay forums.

    Aside, aside: we should be able to deduct points for cheerleading. This only irritates people and pushes them away from an otherwise a great product. (not cheerleading! OS X is usually pretty good. I did skip from 10.6 so maybe i'm not nearly as jaded as I could be)
