Ah, the batteries we talked about. I actually just might get one like that, instead of the cable. At least the Mac works then, if not then we know it wasn't the battery.
Is this something easy to do / something anyone can do, or should I be careful? Is it dangerous to replace it?

It's pretty safe & easy to replace, just take note of the polarity.
