I think you need to have a service technician or Apple store look at your system. What dod you update? FCP? The OS?

Jun 15, 2013 5:20 PM in response to momusmeby Russ H,I was curious because I remember when I first encountered the old FCP I was somewhat intimidated by the UI (not to mention those of Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro). From the get-go I struggled to get my head around the software because it all seemed so obscure to me.
Fast forward to FCPX and my guess is that it doesn't seem intimidating to anyone – with the UI having such a close resemblance to iMovie. Maybe this lulls people into complacency when in fact there are many more moving parts than immediately apparent – and truthfully, a lot of gotchas – especially if improvising in the organization.
Good luck with getting your Mac straightened out soon.

Jun 15, 2013 7:03 PM in response to Russ Hby dastoelk,Couldn't agree more. Apple has constructed a simple, elegant interface. (Based upon, as you said, "iMovie.") Yes... (GASP) FCPX is intended for Prosumers and much as it is for "pros." (Some professionals' egos are afraid to admit this, I think. Get over yourself. FCPX is for hackneyed bloggers and YouTube devotes as WELL AS Hollywood film makers.)
FCPX "looks" like a frilly, colorful piece of software--lacking the cold, sterile, "serious" UI of legacy FCP.
But, there's a LOT more going on under the hood. It's a powerful application.
And, me thinks, after the next update (to coincide with the release of the new MacPro) FCPX may silence a LOT of professional critics.
