It freezes and stalls, also. I finally got all of Safari out, and re-installed. Still slow but better.
NEVER put in Opera ----- it ***** big time.
And, Chrome when I tried it last time FORCED Bing on my and I like Google, so I will not put that in again.
I am beginning to think that its all the crap on Facebook you can't turn off (al the hyperlinks everywhere.
It is the worse. Hopefully when I get back to Seattle and get my MacPro upgraded it will work much better.
Just have to keep nursing it for a couple more months.

Sounds more like an OS issue than software.

No.... never run IS X 1GB RAM... you need a new fresh install to get on the right footing too
My 1, 1 is FAST but it has SSDs for system, 8GB RAM and media drive for non-system
1GB is barely enough for even Safari alone today and SL 2GB+ with 4 or more preferably... and FBDIMM prefer 4 x 1GB or higher

IS ? Not familiar with the reference, but I have reformatter and reinstalled a couple times. The computer is fine for a few weeks then after a couple automatic "updates" that claim to be security only it messes up again. I have long stopped updating every that was not Adobe Flash or Security. It did not help.

The mail, I should say, is functioning better now since I changed all passwords but Mail would not work properly without saving each password for each account. I had to save the passwords - which I had not wanted to - or it would send the mail from the incorrect email address and/or server. All setting were correct - I had checked those.

typo: NEVER RUN Mac OS X with 1GB RAM, SL requirement called for 2 minimal, and Mac Pro takes and needs more .
Anemia, starvation, unable to load adequate system and application and web resources
If you can't install a fresh format and only Apple - and hold off on importing or changes - and have a stable system even with the security updates, and you have not installed 3rd party apps, you need to stay there and figure out why.
10.6.8 or 10.7.5 should be fine. But not with 1GB of memory

I bought this way from APPLE...so with what you are saying they really should owe me a refund for a defect computer. ;-)
I do understand what you are really saying by that. All the crap out there to keep up with the Jones eats up more RAM even IF you personally don't watch videos or play games or ??? on the Internet. And to think one reason I bought a MAC to begin witih was to avoid expensive upgrades every few years.
Ironic, isn't it?

Apple ships with vare minimums and it is DIY and cheaper to upgrade it yourself. And FBDIMMs are noe better and 1/29th cost today. Same with adding new storage and gpu even diy new cpus.

I have considered that, but at the moment (unless I get desperate) I need to save to a return move back to WA state. I do have a MacBook Pro to fall back on but like the keyborad of the desktop. As a thought.... I suppose I can see if I can get just get another keyboard for the laptop. Thanks, hatter, for the idea. I may just do that since I am getting the occasional weird character when typing (ie Russion or Latin looking.)

Hatter, if I were upgrade for the new OS - what all do I need if I ordered it all to do myself at home? Incl. the type of RAM, or anything else needed please. Thank you. My understanding is that when I upgrade a computer the RAM must match each other if I insert it a new one - for example, if I have 1 GB, I need to get another 1GB and not two 500 MB....etc. Correct?
What about upgrading processors or ????
What do you know about the new Maverick? Or is it too new. Should I just get Lion? and is it better to get the stand alone Lion OS, as opposed to putting in the previous OS's and updating? Will that save space? Thanks.
I am sooooo frustrated with this think bouncing back to freeze, crash and burn I am about ready to go back to PC if MAC is going to model them with a new OS every year. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
