Jun 17, 2013 3:29 AM in response to Arknittelby MichelPM,You can still purchase new RAM for your iMac model.
RAM is cheap, now Your model iMac can take up to 2 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

Jun 17, 2013 8:51 AM in response to Arknittelby WZZZ,Besides having slots to add extra memory, some of those came with 512MB RAM soldered to the logic board. If that was the case with yours, I don't know if that one having gone bad would interfere or not with adding additional good RAM. Sounds like it would, but would have to look into that. If that is the case, then no point in buying additional memory.
Do you happen to know the model #?

Jun 17, 2013 9:30 AM in response to WZZZby WZZZ,FWIW, found this. Not for the faint of heart.
May everybody abandon this problem already since it's been long time.
Everytime I install OSX on my iMac G5, I failed because of bad on-board memory.
But I have come to conclusion.
Like some Brazilian guy said, I just removed RAM chip with flat-head screw driver by force one by one.
Then every thing fine except I lost 512MB of memory.
But lot better than buy logic board way more expensive than $500.
Right after that I ordered 2GB memory chip by $30.
How's that?
I'm very satisfied.
