A few days ago, with Apple's help, I managed to find and transfer hundreds, if not thousands, of songs from a place they didn't belong to my "Recently Added" file. They're still there. How long should I have to wait before the songs are restored to the mainiTunes' library?

All songs in iTunes are always in the "main library".

Recently Added is simply a smart playlist of songs recently added to iTunes.

If they are not showing up in the Library, quit iTunes and restart. Some have had issues recently with iTunes 11 and songs not showing up in the "main library" for a bit. Restart iTunes usually seems to clear it up.

That may be so, but my experience in the past has been that new songs I have recorded stay in the "Recently Added" file for a few days and then are moved to the main file. The problem I am now facing is that there are so many songs in nthe "Recently Added" file that I can't find a song that I just recorded. I may be wrong, but the thought occurs to me that when there are too many songs there, new recordings are kept in some kind of limbo until the space is cleared. Is that correct?

It wasn't easy, but I finally found the recording I just made. It wasn't in the "Recently Added" file, and it wasn't in the main file; it was someplace else. I recorded it with an iMic, and that's where I finally found it. I guess you could call it the "iMic" file. That's not the whole story, but it's enough for me today. Thanks for your help.

    No.

If they are not showing up in library, it is a bug in iTunes.

All songs in iTunes are always (and only) in the Library.

Playlists are used to help organize your songs. The songs in playlists are simply links to the songs in the Library.

Recently Added is a smart playlist. Songs are added to this playlist (and all smart playlists) based on teh criteria of the smart plalist.

To see the criteria of a smart playlist, select the playlist name then right click - get info.

    Niku,

As Chris suspects, it is a display bug in iTunes.  It has been showing up intermittently for years on both Windows and Mac versions.  The songs really are in your main library.

For home remedies to correct it, see this discussion:

i don't yet know if that litle trick fixed the problem, but I was successful in downloading the free song, and it went straight into my main iTunes library. As to the "Recently Added" songs, they're still there, but I won't worry about that....yet. If they're still there after a week or so, I'll be back. Thanks for your help.

    As they (likely) should be.

    Do this...

iTunes menu View > Show sidebar.

    Select the Recently added playlist.

    Right click > get info.

What is the criteria for this playlist?

This will show you when it will drop off this list.

    How did you eliminate them?

I changed five days to one.
