I guess that you are doing this with your iPhone, correct? Do you have iTunes on a Mac or PC that you can look at your account with?

I wouldn't call these people "inexperienced":

But this issue I know nothing about.

And yes I am using my Iphone. I have a laptop but no Internet/wifi though.

I am speaking from my experience with who has made the claim here in the Mac App Store forum, where I mostly comment. I am unaware of what claims folks are making in forums I don't visit.

They are all talking out their hat. Until you can back up a claim that Apple has done something by providing a link, it's best to stop perpetuating what isn't true. I have no problems in either iTunes or the Mac App Store going from PayPal to a debit card to a credit card and back again. So as far as I can tell, Apple accepts bank issued debit cards and treats them the sae as bank issued credit cards.

Where are you from? The payment method is different in different countries.

    From: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2001

    Accepted payment types

Shopping the App Store requires an iTunes Store account. When you create an iTunes Store account, you must provide a payment method for your purchase. The available payment methods vary by country, but typically you can use credit cards, gift cards, store credit, or PayPal.

In countries where the iTunes Store only sells applications, the accepted payment methods are Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Other payment types such as gift cards, store credit, monthly allowances, and PayPal are not accepted. Depending on your App Store country, prices are listed in either US Dollars or Euros.

Indeed, when I purchased my current MBP and switched credit cards, I distinctly remember reading that debit cards were not accepted here, even if bank-issued. And PayPal (where I have a verfied/confirmed account for quite awhile) is unwelcome as well.

True, only US and some other countries have that privilege.

I asked Apple about debit cards and this is what I was told:

    Dear      ,

Steve here from the iTunes Store Support Team.

I understand you would like to know if it is possible to use your method of payment on the iTunes Store. I understand your concern, and can appreciate how eager you must be to get this matter sorted out.

You can use several payment types for your iTunes Store purchases, although those payment types may vary depending on where you live.

You can find the available payment types using your computer or iOS device.

    On your computer
    --------------------
To see payment types using your computer, follow these steps:

    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. You can download it free of charge here:

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

    2) Sign in to iTunes and open your Account Information page.

    3) Under Apple ID Summary, next to Payment Type, click Edit. The Edit Payment Information page will open, and you'll see a list of accepted payment types at the top.

    On your iOS device
    --------------------
To see payment types using your iOS device, follow these steps:

    1) From the Home screen, tap Settings.

    2) If you're using iOS 6, tap iTunes & App Stores. If you're using iOS 5, tap Store.

    3) Tap your Apple ID. If you aren't signed in, enter your Apple ID and password, and tap Sign In.

    4) Tap View Apple ID.

    5) Enter your Apple ID password.

    6) Tap Payment Information. You'll see the accepted payment types on the next screen.

You can purchase iTunes Gift Cards at many retailers and at any Apple Store:

    http://www.apple.com/store

Do you have a US or Mx account. I have both. I use a debit card without issue in both.

It's an account that dates way back to before we had all that here/there sh1t. Where it finally ended up, I don't recall; Singapore, I think.
