Q: So many problems with iTunes Match...

So far my experience with iTunes Match has been horrible. I keep getting a ton of unmatched songs that absolutely should be matched, and lots of upload errors.

For example, the album "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zeppelin.... http://i.imgur.com/RscRg.png

After toying around with it for a while, i found that sometimes using iTunes to create an AAC version of a unmatched song, the newly created AAC version does get matched. Not sure why this is, as the original unmatched files are 320bit MP3s.

Another issue I've found is that albums are not sorting correctly on my iPhone with iTunes Match active. I use dougscripts in iTunes to copy the release year of all my albums into the "sort album" meta data field. So that way on my ipod or iphone albums are sorted chronologically. Through iTunes match, none of my albums are being sorted correctly. Its not even that they're sorted alphabetically instead of chronologically. They're just listen in what seems like a completely random order.

Yet another MAAAJJJOOORRR complaint is with the album art. I am very meticulous about my album art. Every album in my library has album art displayed. My first step in getting album art is trying to get album art through iTunes. Most of the time this works fine. For the ones that dont, I just search google images and copy and paste the album art in... What I'm finding though, is that all my albums with album art gotten through iTunes, is not showing up on my iPhone when using iTunes Match. But albums where I had to paste a image in to iTunes, those do show up on my iPhone. This is not 100% consistent, but pretty close.

Overall I am very disappointed with iTunes Match so far. The Apple philosophy of "it just works" certainly does not apply to this product.

Im going to wait it out another couple of days or a week or so, and if things don't get better, I'll be calling in asking for a refund.

Of coures, but I bought my Mini on Thursday. I've been playing music from the cloud on it since then and non of it has updated. I played music on it for three hours straight this morning BEFORE i played a song on the iPhone so the music on the iPad should have updated long before that from Thursday as being played. It still has yet to show up.

I have just got a new CD and it's in my Music folder.  The same place iTunes match found songs and uploaded from.

However, now the new tracks are on there, even after Update iTunes Match, the songs are not on my iPad in my Cloud.

    Why is this?

I've tried to Turn Off iTunes Match.  Then restarted iTunes, and now when I turn it on, it asks if I want to "Add this Computer".

I don't want to add it, as it's been added before.  Or do I add it again, and then see all the songs on my account.

    I'm so lost!!

Go ahead and add it, It wont count as another computer. As far as the music not showing on your ipad, give it a few. Also close the app if its open just to refresh it.

    Hi,

Each time you sign out of match, you will be asked to add this computer. This is normal and after selecting add this computer, match will update. Whilst it scan your library again, all previous matched/uploads will be remembered. This process shouldn't take more that a few minutes.

Thanks all.  Just seemed odd to "add" and not just turn on again.

It's done it's job but still a song in one place and folder in main place hasn't been picked up.

So, I've got it going again, I have added a CD of music to a folder, and a particular song at the top level of the folder.

Said folder is the 'root' of the folders to which iTunes looks at to sync with - and yet, iTunes Match has not picked up any of those songs.

What can I check on to ensure it is doing it correctly?

When you say "folder" do you mean in iTunes or outside of iTunes?  Are you ripping the CD using iTunes or something else?

Bottom line is that you need to use iTunes to rip CD's or you're in for a lot of unnecessary fuss.

These tracks were not ripped from a CD.

They are some tracks in a folder, like other tracks I have and went onto itunes match successfully in the first place.

So - how do I get them on itunes match?  Surely it just sees them automatically and does it??

    Hi,

Do these song appear in your iTunes library. If not match will not find them.

If they are in your iTunes library, what is the iCloud status of the tracks?

No - but I (clearly mistakenly) thought the folder that iTunes looks in, would automically add songs to the library - thus adding to the iCloud.

In other words, it's looking in my "Music" folder.  If a song is in there, should it just "do it", like it says.... without my needing to do anything.

I thought just by putting a song in there, iTunes would see it and deal with it.

    Hi,

The folder that you want to use is "Automatically add to itunes".

Ohhh, I see it.  That folder is empty.

So instead of storing all my music in "music/mp3Library", do I have to store them in that folder?

Or, can I just pop the tracks in there to sync, and then remove later as a temp folder.

Or can I change iTunes to use 'music' on it's own instead?

I have done that to see what happens.  It goes in the folder, then disappears in an instant.  With the folder of the CD tracks, that took a while to copy in, and then took a while to disappear.

    Hi,

This folder empties once you have opened itunes. I cannot comment on how you are organising you music but have a look at:-

It's making a little more sense now - tho I have two automatically add to itunes folders.  Tho I doubt you can really help there.

The CD of tracks has gone up, using one of those folders, but the individual track just won't do it.

What really puzzles me, is I have one folder with umpteen tracks like that, and when I went for iTunes Match they all went up without a problem.  Some were unknown but mostly were fine.

This one track won't go up, but won't go into that "not added" folder either.

    It's just disappears without trace.
