This brings up the World Clock with two clocks (must be default): Cupertino and New York.
The clock has a regular big clock face for telling time. I was creating an alarm, and then I can't figure out how to get back.

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about, but you can check the manual, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf, the information about the clock begins on page 90.

Yes, if you look on p. 90 you see the World Clock. You also see four icons on the bottom: World Clock, Alarm, Stopwatch and Timer. Those are the only four things I can get to now.
Until the last time I put in an alarm, when I started the clock app, I would see a clock face. A regular clock face with hands for my time zone. The clock face circle filled the width of the screen.
I might be dreaming, but that's what I think I saw.
Am I thinking of some other app?

You might be, as I never remember the clock filling the entire screen. You can add your particular time zone to the list, and you can also delete New York and Cupertino if you do not want them in your list.
