You might also need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes on her computer. Follow this support document if it is necessary to do that. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
iTunes is what has the communication software and USB drivers for the iPhone. It could be the problem.
I have tried all the troubleshooting problems already. First my fiancé tried them then I tried. No luck. We found that it works with Win 7 though but we uninstalled that partition before my laptop broke and he doesn't have enough space to reinstall it.
It ***** because I am losing space on my phone and I would like to be able to swap music without losing anything. Thanks for the suggestions tho. Hopefully I can find some other solution.
I don't think that Apple has said that it is officially supporting Windows 8 yet. While many report things working on it, there are also a number of problems.
You could try going into Control Panel, Device Manager and find the iPhone. Go to the driver setting and uninstall it. Then plug the phone back into the computer and it should prompt the installation of a new driver. See if that helps.
I think I understand the problem. Your iPhone was originally synced on your own computer and has some media (music/videos, etc) on the phone. You now want to sync to a differnt computer without losing the media that is on the iPhone. Is that correct?

Yes, Vegas. That's exactly what I would like to do. Is there any way I can do it? I heard of using a third party software to get the stuff from my phone. But I had a really bad experience with one program and it has scarred me for a while.
