Jun 19, 2013 5:04 PM in response to RealDavidWilsonby carl wolf,The Apple store has many cases that would be appropriate. For safety, I'd avoid any backpack that is branded in any manner that would indicate that a computer might be inside.

Jun 19, 2013 6:40 PM in response to RealDavidWilsonby GeekBoy.from.Illinois,★HelpfulI admit that I normally "kill" backpacks quickly. I would go through them about one each year until I got my first "SwissGear" backpack about 6 years ago. I used it for 5 years before I finally needed to replace it. After replacing it, I've used the replacement for nearly a year and it still looks fairly new. SwissGear claims to be made by the same company that makes "Swiss Army Knives", so if you like their quality, you might look into the backpacks. They are not the cheapest, running $90-120 for the ones to hold a 17" notebook like I have.
As someone else mentioned, you don't really want your backpack to scream "steal me because I have a computer in me" to potential "opportunists", so perhaps consider other style bags instead.

Jun 19, 2013 7:05 PM in response to GeekBoy.from.Illinoisby RealDavidWilson,I'm also usually pretty gentle with my backpacks, so I was very surprised to see that the last one I owned, which was in fact also a SwissGear, got destroyed within a school year. Of course, I used it with rigor, and I got a much cheaper version, so that couldn't have helped much. Anyways, I might choose to stray from SwissGear for a while, but perhaps I've been persuaded to "go big or go home" and get a higher quality backpack. Anyways, much thanks for your help, I will certainly take your advice into consideration.
Thanks again,
David

Jun 19, 2013 7:09 PM in response to RealDavidWilsonby steve359,I second the SwissGear line. Bottom is thick plastic for sitting on hard ground, spring-loaded shoulder straps, handles of plastic-wrapped steel cable.
I have put mine through h*ll for 4 years carrying many many pounds of things and it is just fine.

Jun 19, 2013 7:12 PM in response to steve359by RealDavidWilson,As mentioned earlier, I destroyed a SwissGear in less than a year, even when im usually very gentle on backpacks. I'll consider going that way again.
Thanks for your advice,
