My 5 week old MBPR started shutting itself down randomly last night. It shuts down without a warning and then I have to press the power button to reboot it. I am running Mountain Lion (10.8.4) and tried resetting the SMC a few times but that did not help.

Even in target/recovery mode, it decided to shut itself down immediately in about less than a minute. Also, at some point, the battery appeared with a cross on it and when I looked up the Sytem Information, it said no battery deteceted.

Any clues?

Since the SMC reset didn't help, Apple recommends reseating the battery. If that doesn't help, contact AppleCare >  MacBook Pro:Battery not recognized after being fully drained
