Q: Macintosh classic wont boot

Hi, I just bought a macintosh classic. When I turn it on, it shows a floppy disk with a question mark on it. So then I ordered system 7.1. When I inserted the "install system 7.1" disk it showed a happy mac. Then a few seconds later, it says "System 7.1 needs more memory to start up". Now what do I do?

Macintosh, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier
