I've gotten 8 used MacBooks off of eBay for my family. Four of them needed a new battery so I got the third party batteries off of eBay. The oldest one has been in my daughters MacBook for over three years now. I've had no problems with any of them. I just make sure to calibrate them when I first got them. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Thanks for sharing you experience.
Based on your recommendation I'll take a chance on getting one off ebay.
What specification should I look for? Voltage , watts ?
I found many models around $30.00 and some around $90.00
I interested in the cheapest alternative, do you think battery aound 30 bucks are as good and reliable?
how much did you get yours for?
I have a 1st Generation White Macbook 1.83Ghz IntelCore Duo bought in 2006
thanks for your feedback
I've always gone with the cheapest one from a USA seller.
I've just received the new battery in the mail today.
it took less than 10 days to get here in Europe from the US which is pretty fast.
I tried to calibrate the battery as shown on the KB, But after tthe process, it shows me only 1 hour of lifetime.
Is it normal on these kinds of aftermarket batteries, or Am I doing something wrong?.
Hi Andrew, Thanks for the tip.
how many times should I repeat the process ?
here is the info I got from my french system -
Thanks for your help

Unfortunately you have a defective battery. Your full charge capacity is about 25% of what it should be. You'll have to send it back. I had a similar experience with a cheap chinese battery and ended up buying a genuine apple replacement. There is a lot more technology in batteries these days than just the cells and I always reccomend apple or name brand replacements.
Probably too late for you, but I've had success getting a quality replacement battery from OWC (www.macsales.com) for my early 2008 MacBook Pro. I replaced the original Apple battery after 2 years (wouldn't hold a charge). I expect this battery won't last out the year, but I hope to replace the MBP with a new Air in a few months anyway.
Thanks for the tip.
I decided to keep the battery in the end. The cost of shiping it back would have been the same as the price of the battery itself.
The battery is very unstable, sometimes it holds 2 hours and sometimes 10 mn at full charge ???
I would definitely advise anyone to stay away from aftemarket batteries and go with an original Apple product.
Oh well... . This macbook is 6 years old, it's about time I seriously consider buying a new one.
While quantities last, Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) lists genuine OEM Apple MacBook batteries for US$79 (list price of US$129) in their 'Garage Sale' which began June 18th. Depending upon your location, economy shipping in the US may be free.
