Q: Connecting a new iPad to my wireless connection.

When I try to connect my brand new iPad 4 to my wireless internet connection, I get a message that says "The Airport Express named 'Apple Network xxxx' cannot be set up by this software. go to apple.com/support/airport." How do I connect?

Look on the side of the AirPort Express for the Model No in the faint print.

If you see A1084 or A1088, these are older non-supported versions of the AirPort Express that cannot be administered using the iPad.

You will need to use a Mac or PC running AirPort Utility version 5.x if you need to set up the AirPort Express that you have.

Once the Express is set up, the iPad will be able to connect to the wireless signal provided by the AirPort Express by choosing Settings > WiFi > Choose a network.

Select the name of the network, enter the password, and the iPad will join the network.

Thank you for your answer, Bob. Fortunately, I did have a second, newer Airport Express that I bought a year or so to use in a different way but had never even opened. I was able to use it and set up a new connection.

There was still a connection problem, but it turned out to be something my Internet Provider was able to fix from his end. Once that was fixed, everything worked okay. Thank you for your help.
