I found one... and this is the log from CONSOLE

Jun 22 16:01:39 JP.local com.apple.usbmuxd[38]: HandleUSBMuxConnect Client 0x100407d90-AppleMobileDeviceHelper/com.apple.SyncServices.AppleMobileDeviceHel per requesting attach to 0x2e:62078 failed, no such device

strange thing...  when I look at System Information using this 'new cord' the harddrive appears in different places than it did with it's original cord.

Hmm... Did the drive recognize, and was it able to be used?

Unfortunately not.  It does not mount in finder or the desktop and disk utility does not recognize it

In this case I am afraid the external hard disk may be faulty.   You can take it to a repair shop, but it sounds like it may be done.

Sorry I could not find a solution for you.

Hey, I think your profile is linked to my macbook.
I'm not sure but I typed in the Profile ID and your jpjustjp profile came up...

    This was the ID: BRCM20702

Do you know why this is?

I don't think it's linked to your macbook....  I created this discussion group... I would imagine that's why

I too am having trouble with my Iomega ego  rphd - ug3.

My last successful backup to this external HD was Jan 20, 2014. I have used it successfuly for a couple of years now. It is my main BACKUP so it is a real drag that I cannot open it or backup to it.

It is an odd coincidence that I upgraded my Mac to the new operating system on that same day....could this have anything to do with my computer not recognizing the iomega?

    Thanks.

I have the same iOmega eGo external HD

my laptop is the latest MacBook pro [summer 2013]

... the guy in my local Apple store said this is a known issue with macbook

he says the problem is about the OS ... not the laptop... not the eGo either... or the connection between the two...

he seemed to think there was NO FIX FOR IT AS YET

he recommended using an older OS [which i don't want to do]

and never upgrading to the latest OS [which seems like a bit of a fraud on Apple's behalf]

it is not a prob with iOmega eGo either. It happens with lots of diff externs trying to backup from the latest OS's

Time Machine itself may need a patch or the whole OS

I just don't see why Apple are not embracing this issue and getting it sorted!

I also have the latest 2013 13' MacBook Air and last night my Seagate Expansion 500GB portable HD stopped working with it... it still comes up in Finder but freezes constantly, won't let me see any contents of the drive, and takes a very long time to eject the drive from my computer the proper way. I've used this drive for about 2 years and most recently I used it last week... It sounds similar to what others on this post have been complaning about... can I really not use this drive with my computer and the latest OS?? That seems ridiculous.

At this point given everything said, I am hesitant to believe that it is a problem with the OS.    I believe that yes the OS may be more strict about how it is handeling hard drives in a stronger effort to reduce potential errors, but I dont believe that the OS is just stubbornly rejecting the disk.       Last time this happened to me under the same circumstances, I was able to back up the contents of the disk through Terminal (a *VERY* lengthy proces as there is a ton of data to transfer) and then when i reformatted the drive, everything was fine again.  Drive worked at full speed, and i have not had the problem since.

Just out of blind curiocity, what format is your drive?   could you take a picture of Disk utility and show me what it says for the device-level of that hdd?  and then again for the partition-level?
