Does it boot from the 10.6 Install Disc hold c key?

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...

/sbin/fsck -fy

Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.

(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

You mean you did it a second time & it didn't say file system modified, which indicates a full repair?

Do you have the Install Disc?

You have to repeat it until it no longer says that.

If it never stops saying that we're in trouble.
