Soo I plug my iPod into the cord which is plugged into the computer, the computer makes the little beep that lets me know its detected a device and... Nothing. It doesn't show up in iTunes. It doesn't show the little charging symbol on the iPod. Nothing.

I've tried two different cords and three different USB ports. The annoying thing is it worked two days ago, and had been working prior to that for several months. Nothing has happened to the iPod or computer that would cause damage. They've both literally been sitting in this room for two days. I can plug my iPod into the wall charger and it will charge just fine. It can connect to the internet, etc. But it won't connect itself to iTunes via the USB cable... and I'm unsure of what to do next. I've googled around and checked the forums but I haven't found anything that works.

Assistance :3

Also, I can't download iOS 6.1.2, it just fails everytime after the verification process. I've never failed verification before so I'm not sure if this is a widespread issue or just me... The error I guess you would call it says "Software Update is not available at this time. Try again later."

    See:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

    I would start with

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

    or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

Next try another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

The update problem typically indicates a either a network problem or an Apple server problem. That happened to be a few times. I just retried and it work after a while.

I reinstalled iTunes and followed the steps for the iOS thing but nothing worked, plugged it into my mini laptop and after installing driver software it was recognized. Could it be the driver software? If so, how do I check/update that?

Edit: I recently disabled Windows Automatic Update for unrelated reasons, could that be affecting this at all? Pretty sure it was disabled long before this started occuring, but I'm not 100% on that.

Edit 2: I attempted to do the iOS steps but the Device Manager was empty and I can't figure out why. I googled around but it's full of 10,000 step solutions that don't work. I tried quiet a few.

Also, right when I turn my computer on, if my iPod is already connected it lights up and acts as if it is connected for the first 10 seconds, then just "Oops JK" and pretends its not connected anymore. The iPod still charges when its connected, but it doesn't show the charging symbol or anything on the iPod itself.

    Have:

Next try another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

I had this problem but it turns out I was using the wrong ipod cord.  The chord that is used for the wall charger cannot be used for the computer.  The part that plugs into your ipod touch should be very small, the one for the wall charger will be bigger.

I actually had the same problem but weirdly enough i did the opposite of what ajg4fire did and used my wall charger and plugged it into mym computer and it worked. But i might have had the cords mixed up in the first placem though.
