Recent iTunes versions are really awkward navigating for large libraries

I mean... the sorting options are messed up! You use to be able to sort Albums, Artists, Song etc by Date Added, Ratings, Name, whatever... now you can only sort the "Songs" list like that.

Also... adding to a playlist... is right clicking the ONLY WAY to add to a playlist? Cause I have hundreds of playlists... and i'd like to keep them but this context menu is just stupid... it doesn't fit on my screen. Maybe it works good if you only have 20 playlists.

I use star ratings a LOT! I sort my music with this... I rate it on my iphone I rate it on my computer... it syncs. Before I could actually use this feature a lot by sorting by star rating.. now that the sorting options are limited it's almost like that time was wasted. So annoying.

I'm stuck with iTunes tho cause I use an iPhone... and I love a lot of the features it has. iTunes Remote, VLC remote, etc...

There needs to be a new, better way of managing music. Please let's create a new player... Let me help you.

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.

You can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:

    • ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
    • CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
    • CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
    • CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
    • Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
    • Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
    • If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
    • Use Edit > Preferences > Show list views for all media to do just that
    • From iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
    • View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views

    • View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views

For the Albums view you can have either Sort by Title/ArtistGenre/Year then Rating or Sort by Rating then Title/Artist/Year.

For the Artists view you have an enforced By Artist sort, but within that can do By Rating.

I assume it will be the album ratings that are considered...

I meant that I assumed (without testing so far) that iTunes is considering Album Ratings when if offers those options. Assuming I'm correct you can sort by Song Ratings in the Songs view, as in prior versions of iTunes.

You can prevent albums auto-rating with my script ClearAlbumAutoRating.
