Q: Akai MPK 49 with Mainstage - Assigning Pads and Keys Separately
Hey for a whole day I've been trying to stop Mainstage from playing Drum Pads and Keys at the same time as each other when assigned to separate midi channels.. couldn't see a fix online and realised its probably a glitch with mainstage...
So here's my fix...
1) Go on to Vyzex (Akai's MPK Editor comes with the keyboard)
Make sure all the pads are assigned to channel 2A and your keyboard is assigned to 1A (NOT 'CC') (Or whatever Midi channels you want to use).
(If using an Axiom Pro I think the pads are already assigned to channel 10.)
2) In Mainstage (MS) Layout Mode - add your Midi assignable Drum Pads
(this is where the glitch is Mainstage!!!!! Please fix it so the Drum pads can be assigned to different midi channels... The screen says it is assignable and yet that isn't happening thanks!)
Then Add TWO keyboards - 1 for your Pads and 1 for your Keys.
3)
- Select Main Keyboard 1 and assign to Midi Channel 1... You can Rename it like i did below to avoid confusion later.
- Select Main Keyboard 2 and assign to Midi Channel 2... Rename it.
4) EDIT MODE > Midi Learn/Asign the Pads etc.
See Screenshot below for details ...
4) There are other threads that teach you the next bit.. so ill do a quick guide below..
Uncheck "Send unassigned MIDI to all Channel Strips"
5) Select your Drum pad channel strip "Ultrabeat" or whatever ... (I put it at the concert level but up to you).
- Keyboard: Akai PADS (2) Select your renamed keyboard or if you didnt rename it > Multitimbral > Keyboard 2 > Midi Channel 2
6) Select your Keyboard Channel Strip "organ or pad etc" and assign it to your Keyboard 1 midi channel 1 etc.
Man that had me frustrated for a long time! hope it helps!
Hey if anyone knows a way to jail break the akai and us the LATCH button to latch the sustain, or a good work around please let me know! thanks
All the best!:)
