I can't open files on the website that I've gotten them from previously. Help! I really need them for work.  Two things I've changed recently:  1. One trusted website suggested getting Adobe Reader, which I did (version 11.0.03). 2. I upgraded from my old operating system a couple of weeks ago to Snow Leopard, and then updated that to 10.6.8.

Looking in Internet Plug-Ins, I see "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" and "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin", amongst other things.

When I try to open something on one website, a window pops up with a blue and white flashing bar on the bottom, but nothing else happens.

On the other website, the docs say they are  pdf.exe. and that they are a windows app. then guides me to open Entourage. I have no idea why.

.exe files are windows and cannot be opened by Macs.  You should post in the Adobe forums since it's their product - 3rd party.

the pdf.exe ones might open if saved & renamed .pdf

can you share the sites that give you trouble ?

if you locate the file using Finder, in the Downloads folder, or wherever you have it set to save them, you should be able to rename there, to see if that will work.

the flashing blue/white ones - don't know... do they work in other web browsers ?

    or with Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins un-checked ?

I meant to test with Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins un-checked

since that disables any adobe or other pdf plugins, but still allows the built-in support, in my experience.

So if that helps, remove any pdf plug-ins & test again,
