Have been using Aperture for a while now and suddenly, it seems, it has lost one function that I use quite a lot.

While selecting a thumbnail, if I go into "File" the subcommand "Show in Finder" is greyed out.

This is true ONLY for those images that I've imported in the past 4 or 5 months. Images imported (thousands of them) imported prior to that (up to 2 years ago) I can still successfully use that command.

Is there some setting in the Import function that I accidentally unchecked (or checked)?

I even tried using the command seconds after successfully importing a block of images, thinking that Aperture would surely remember the folder from which it just found the photos!! No luck.

Any ideas?

"Show in Finder" only will work, if you imported the files as referenced and they are stored outside the Aperture library.

Check your Import settings and look at the brick "Aperture Library".

If the pop-up "Store Files" is set to "In the Aperture Library", your files will be stored inside the Library package and "Show in Finder" is not possible.

If it has not been your intention to import managed, you can relocate your original files to a folder outside the library. Select them and use the command "File > Relocate Original" to move them to a folder outside the Aperture library where your other originals are located.

I am sure you know, that referenced originals must not be moved or changed in any way.

    Katie,

you are looking at Aperture's Preferences panel.

I am talking about the settings you should be seeing, when you are importing images. Press the blue down arrow to open the "Import" window or use the command "File > Import".

To the right should be the panel with the "Import" settings.
