Ever since I upgraded to the latest version, I've had nothing but trouble. When I try to play music from my library, it stops and starts constantly. If I click from one song to another, I end up with the spinning beach ball of death and I have to force quit. When I try to restart iTunes, I get a message saying my library is locked on a locked disk and this can't be further from the truth. I keep my library on an external drive and other things on there are accessible. I've never let it go long enough to crash, but I'm sure if I did, it would.
I usually have no trouble with upgrades from Apple, but now I will think twice before I just automatically accept an upgrade. I agree with a previous post. The glory days for Apple are over. No longer can we assume that Apple products "just work".

I have iTunes running on a headless Mac Mini server solely for feeding ATV's, and find I'm having to restart at least once a day. I've also found that I can't download new season pass episodes, or buy anything but apps, as it won't accept my password ( although if I close down iTunes and re-open it, everything downloads.... ).
This version is just plain abysmal.

Yep, simple workaround.
It seems a wifi sync error.
On itunes I highlighted each wifi synced device, then at the "summary" tab one can untick, "sync with this (iphone) via wifi".
It hasn't crashed anymore (but obviously wifi syncing is disabled...no prob, i almost never use this).

Not sure if thats the solution for me Icarus. I never had WiFi sync turned on (I just chekked just to be sure) and iTunes crashes all the time

I would bet the Itunes developer's team changed around version 10.4 (Summer 2011).
Since then all upates have brought absolutely nothing new and actually been worse than the previous one.
They started spending their time on changing stupid things (anyone remember the grey icons?), then they removed essentials features like the right sidebar with genius recomendations based on the playing track which we used to buy new songs (to buy new songs based on the one you like now you need to quit the song view, go to the album view, click on the genius recommendation and then come back on the song view, madness...) they also got rid of the song art picture in the bottom left corner. And not happy to get the interface worse they released this 11.0.3 version that keeps crashing and freezing.
I guess they've added so much crappy code on top of the existing code that the whole thing is now very difficult to debug even for them.
What is sad is they could have spent their effort on developing real features: why can't we get higher quality of songs ? Why can't I share my songs with my friends so they can try and buy the one they like? etc..
Apple is getting bigger and bigger and it seems Tim is not the fearce dictator Steve was when quality is concerned.

I don't use wifi and itunes 11.0.3 now crashes for me too. Everytime I go to play a movie or TV show.
This is totally unacceptable given these are *my* purchases from the itunes store.
I'm not renting I paid for these files!
What is going on?
Has anybody from Apple read this thread and replied?

Everyone is totally right. This version is a disaster.
Has Apple appologised?
They need to fix this and fix this fast. itunes is *the* backbone of the entire Apple "experience" It's the gateway to their entire store. itunes *is* Apple. It's the heart and sole of the company. What an unmitigated disaser the whole iTunes 11 exerience is. From stability, to they way the new GUI looks and feels, to the way it syncs with my old AppleTV, to the way dowloads work, to just about everthing I like about OSX. Someone needs to sort this and sort this fast and get the company back on track providing useful, reliable and easy to use software again. Start with itunes.

They released 11.0.4 today and one of the items cited in the release notes was a fix for a bug where iTunes closes due to wifi sync'ing. I installed this version and enabled wifi sync'ing on my three i'devices. It's too early to tell now, but so far it has not crashed.

Thanks for that, but alas it hasn't solved my problem
itunes 11 is total and utter rubbish.
What a disaster.
Apple: Go back and redo it again.
Sack everyone invloved in the recommendation, suggestion and failure of this deplorable upgrade.
And give us back the clean GUI we used to like.

I'm usually not one for "me too" postings, and this whole iTunes Crashing thing has brought them out in droves, but 11.0.4 just froze on me in the middle of a song and that was the last straw. I had been importing a bunch of old CDs the last few days and iTunes would crash or lock-up every 3 or 4 discs. A couple of time it caused a system-wide lockup forcing me to restart the iMac. But never before had it just stopped dead while I was just listening to music.
So in order to make this a bit more relevent than just a "me too" could someone post where it is that we can send in bug reports or complaints in general to Apple? I've seen it before but can't remember whee that is? Apple need to be flooded with these complaints because clearly there is some big-a$$ flaw in this thing.
thanks in advance

Brunettin, your suggestion sounds like the right thing to do. iTunes has been working well for me since the upgrade but now Airport Express will sometimes quit without reason while it's is receiving streaming from iTunes, and then after a bit restart . I note also that since the introduction of 11.0.4 this board has been quiet since June 6 until last Tuesday. So these seem to be new issues. I wonder if anyone from Apple reads these comments?

Did you try the latest software upgrade, 11.0.4(4)?
When you get a crash usually you will have the option to send a incident / bug report (and include a comment of your choosing!).
I had similar probems before downloading the latest version and so far no recurrence..... so I reckon someone in Apple must be listening to the complaints.

Brunettin, there used to be an actual bug report button in Safari's toolbar, but Apple removed it. Now, when an app crashes, a crash report should pop up. It is there where you would enter the infomation about what you were doing or what the app was doing before the crash happened. These get sent to Apple.
Apple responded pretty quickly to the iTunes crash problem by updating both iTunes and the OS. In my case, I couldn't even play two songs in a row before it crashed, let alone try to import or burn CDs. I haven't had any issues since the update. I hope it straightens itself out for you.
