According to one poster it is a bug - report to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
Reports indicate you only need a tiny zoom
I do not see it - so it does have something to do with indivitual systems - I've seen no determination as to what that is - a certain video card? ???
For now no one seems to have actuallhy solved it if they have it except to do a small aoom - and I believe that if you unzoom it stay ssharp - but again I do not see it on my ssytem

Thanks. I'll get in touch with Apple then.
Yes, when I zoom a little, sometimes the blur disappears. But when I unzoom it appears again. Very annoying. I hope Aperture, which I might buy, doesn't have this bug.
I dind't understand what you mean by "a certain video card?"

I'm using a brand new 6 core Mac Pro with Mountain Lion and latest iPhoto .... this has been going on for ages ....In any mode except Edit, things are razor sharp but as soon as Edit is selected the image softens. A tiny crop will sharpen things up. Its a clear bug that Apple has been notified about countless times but they dont care ..... Google it ....
and I subscribe to Adobe's Creative Cloud for Dreamweaver & Fireworks ..... FW had an issue witth Lion / Mountain Lion that Adobe wont fix either ....

This happens on every Mac I own, in every OS and in every iPhoto ... I have a 2013 Mac Pro running ML, 2x 2008 Mac Pros running Lion, and a G5 quad running SL. There have been other threads on this and when I speak to Applecare .... they dont care . I have tested with different cameras too. When you switch to Edit mode the image reduces in size slightly? Why??? This is the issue I think ....
