Q: Is it possible to do a similar thing on a macbook pro

I was wondering if it is possible to view apps that you have previously opened like what happens when you double click the home button on an IOS device?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

No. You can't view or open iPod, iPhone or iPad apps on a computer.

Sort of. If you look under the Apple menu, you'll see a "Recent Items" and if you look there, then unless you've turned off that option in the System Preferences, you'll see a list of the applications you've used most recently.

This would have been a question better asked in the Mac OS 10.7 forum, just for future reference.

    Regards.
