Q: Migration via Wifi + Ethernet is extremely slow

Why the migration of information from my old PowerBook to the new one via Wifi + Ethernet is so slow?  60 hours!!!!

The migration assistant didn't give me any other choice like FireWire.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities

Wi-Fi and Ethernet are very slow, so I think it's normal that time if you have to transfer a lot of data.

Migration Assistant can't transfer through FireWire because the MacBook Pro with Retina display hasn't got FireWire, and if your PowerBook has got FireWire, it's probably FireWire 400, making everything much more difficult. I recommend you to get an external drive and transfer your files manually

Thank you for your comments. I have a Firewireb adaptor for the MBP with Retina, but it didn't work. Now I am stuck and I still have 40 hours left for the migration. I don't dare stopping the process...

As I told you, you have two options: continue the migration, or make a backup of your old PowerBook and restore it into your MacBook. It's much faster the last one, but if you want to carry on the migration, do it

The only way to stop migration is by turning off both Macs, so some transferred files will be in your MacBook. As they appear as a new user, you should be able to remove this user from System Preferences > Users & Groups

If you were using Setup Assistant (you are migrating during the initial setup of the MacBook), there's only one user, so it's possible that your computer will ask you to create a new user account next time you start your MacBook
