A greyed out song means it's not on your device or there is a problem with it.

Jun 29, 2013 10:09 AM in response to Winston Churchillby jlynn1234,If I want to play a song on my iphone, from the cloud, does it automatically download? Can't I just listen to the music without downloading it?
-
Jun 29, 2013 12:27 PM in response to jlynn1234by Winston Churchill,If it's not on the phone, you can't 'just' play it. It is grey because it is available for download. You will need to download it to play it, but once you do download it, it will stay on your phone.

May 27, 2014 7:12 PM in response to Winston Churchillby Bjornholt,How do you download it to your phone?
-
May 27, 2014 7:21 PM in response to Bjornholtby randers4,If you purchased it from the iTunes store, go to Settings>Music and make sure Show All Music is on. Then open the Music app, locate the song you want to download and tap the iCloud download symbol next to it. (You will need to be connected to wifi or your cellular data network in order to download it.)

May 27, 2014 7:44 PM in response to randers4by Bjornholt,Did what you said. Beside the song was an icon of a cloud with an error pointing down, I clicked and it changed into a circle icon with a square in it and it's red. What I do notice is i seem to have a lot of dupe songs

May 27, 2014 7:46 PM in response to Bjornholtby randers4,Does your phone have a good connection to the internet?
Can you go to My Apple ID using Safari on your phone? That will test whether you can access a secure site.

May 27, 2014 7:48 PM in response to Bjornholtby Bjornholt, now the ones with the square won't play even on wi fi

May 27, 2014 7:55 PM in response to Bjornholtby Bjornholt,Actually the ones with the square will play. I'll have to disconnect wi fi to see if these songs will now play without the cloud. I have a very strong internet connection.

May 27, 2014 8:22 PM in response to randers4by Bjornholt,Not sure its called home sharing, we have a number of users. Anyway if you solved this for me which I think you may have then thanks gratefully.

May 27, 2014 8:28 PM in response to Bjornholtby randers4,Home sharing is a service that allows you to stream music from your iTunes library to your devices/computer over your wifi network (more details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3819).
Since you said these songs would play over your wifi I was wondering if you were playing them using Home Sharing, streaming them from your iTunes library on your computer.
